Aluminium CNC Machining
We machine four aluminium grades to suit every application — from lightweight structural parts to high-stress aerospace components.
Grade Comparison
Key mechanical properties and machinability ratings across all grades we stock.
| Grade | Standard | Tensile Str. | Machinability | Corrosion Res. | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6061 | EN AW-6061 | 310 MPa | Excellent | High | Structural parts, frames, enclosures, general machining |
| 7075 | EN AW-7075 | 570 MPa | Good | Medium | High-stress parts, aerospace-grade components, tooling |
| 6082 | EN AW-6082 | 340 MPa | Excellent | High | Structural profiles, construction, transportation |
| 5083 | EN AW-5083 | 270 MPa | Good | High | Marine environments, food machinery, cryogenic applications |
Grade Details
Choosing the wrong grade affects machinability, cost, and part life. Use these notes to narrow down your choice.
6061
Most popularThe go-to aluminium for CNC machining. Excellent machinability, good strength-to-weight ratio, and easily anodized. Suitable for most structural and functional parts.
7075
Highest strengthNearly twice the tensile strength of 6061. Used when maximum strength is required — aerospace brackets, high-load fixtures. Slightly harder to machine and less corrosion resistant.
6082
StructuralSimilar to 6061 but with slightly higher strength. Common in European structural applications. Readily available in the Benelux and DACH regions.
5083
Marine / foodHighest corrosion resistance among these grades. Preferred for food-contact surfaces, marine parts, and cryogenic applications. Not heat-treatable.
Surface Finishes for Aluminium
All finishes applied after machining. Specify your requirement in the RFQ.
As Machined
Ra 1.6 – 3.2
Default. Clean, functional surface direct from the machine.
Anodize (Type II)
Ra 0.8 – 1.6
Hard, corrosion-resistant oxide layer. Clear or black. Common on 6061.
Powder Coat
Textured
Durable paint coating. Specify colour in RAL. Good for enclosures.
